Honors:  Must do Section Review Questions 8.3,8.4, and Case Study:  LHON:Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy (LHON) is a disease inherited from your mother. It causes you to lose your eyesight, starting with painless blurriness. Your central vision, which you need to drive, read and recognize faces, will be affected first. Symptoms typically start between the ages of 15 and 35. In this Case Study Wrap Up students will use their knowledge of cell structure and function to explore the cause and mechanism of Leber's Hereditary Optic Neuropathy. In Vitro fertilization is introduced as a method for preventing the transmission of LHON from mother to child. Students draw an illustration of this process and discuss the career of a bioethicist.
